Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Iranian President Hassan Rouhan’s special envoy, has met and talked with Tunisian President Mohamed Beji Caid Essebsi on Wednesday about bilateral relationships.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs also submitted Rouhani’s message to Tunisian President.
Conveying Rouhani’s warm greetings to his Tunisian counterpart, Ansari also discussed latest developments on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and US unilateral withdrawal from it in violation of international regulations.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs also presented a report on Tehran’s measures to peacefully solve regional crises, reiterating Iran’s firm resolve to help promote bilateral relations with Tunisia in political, cultural and economic fields.
Tunisian President, for his part, appreciated President Rouhani and hailed Iran’s great culture, history and civilization, saying that Tunisia boasts of an independent foreign policy regarding regional and international issues.
Beji Caid Essebsi also hoped that the two countries’ relations would improve on the basis of mutual interests.
On May 8, US pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has underlined that any decision to keep the JCPOA running without the US should be conditional on “practical guarantees” from the Europeans.
