The House of Representatives of the Indian Parliament has passed a controversial bill that would accelerate the citizenship of non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Iran Press/ Asia: The bill is part of the agenda of the Hindu nationalist government to marginalize its 200 million Muslim population, violating the principles of equality enshrined in the constitution.

This is while critics of India's government say the legislation undermines the country’s secular constitution and will fast-track citizenship for religious minorities, including Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians, from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. 

The controversial move marks the turning point in Modi’s drive to redefine the secular state as a Hindu homeland. 207
