Former Jamaat-i-Islami chairman dies in Karachi

Former Jamaat-i-Islami chairman Syed Munawar Hasan died on Friday at the age of 79 at a hospital in Karachi where he was under treatment for the past few days.
Iran Press/Asia: He was one of the Pakistani Sunni social activists who was elected deputy chairman of the Jamaat-e-Islami party in 1992 and then chairman of the party in 2009, where he served for six years.
The prominent Pakistani Sunni cleric has been a staunch opponent of US interventionist policies in the region, especially in Afghanistan, and has repeatedly condemned US drone attacks on Pakistani territory during his tenure.
