Italians back government's position on US- lead strike on Syria
According to the recent survey by a famous Italian think tank, the Italian public support their government's rejection of joining a US- led strike on Syria.
A survey by an authoritative Italian think-tank has found that most Italians approve of their government’s decision not to join the US-led airstrikes on Syria earlier this month. Many in Italy believe that allegations of a chemical attack in Syria's Eastern Ghouta by the Syrian army was just a pretext for launching airstrikes against Syria.
On 14 April 2018 , Washington launched air and missile strikes against Syria. The strikes took place at about 04:00 a.m. local time (01:00 GMT) on 14 April, a week after an alleged chemical attack on the town of Douma, which militants , and Western media, have blamed on the Syrian army. More than 40 people were killed in the alleged chemical attack on 7 April.
The Syrian government , as well as Russia and Iran, have categorically rejected the Western and militant claims, arguing "a false flag operation" was carried out in Douma on 7 April, where a chemical attack was staged by the militants themselves, who forcibly brought the civilian population of the town, including women and children, into contact with dangerous chemicals, and then blamed the government of Syria for the incident.
So far many countries have held protests and rallies, condemning US-led airstrike on Syria.
