Iran's envoy to IAEA, Kazem Gharibabadi in his speech at the thirty-fifth session of CTBT reissued Tehran's call for complete elimination of all types of nuclear weapons.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna Kazem Gharibabadi, reaffirmed Tehran's constant position on nuclear weapons and once again called for the complete elimination of all types of atomic weapons.

According to Iran Press, Gharibabadi said: "If the goals of this treaty are to be fully achieved, all signatories, especially nuclear states must immediately honour their commitments to disarmament."

He stressed that nuclear countries have a special responsibility for the treaty's entry into force, and we strongly urge these governments to fully abide by the spirit and letter of the treaty, Gharibabadi reiterated.

The Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) further emphasized the need to balance the budget and human resources for all sectors of the verification regimes and to improve capacity building in signatory states, especially developing countries, on training and capacity building.

Appreciating the training and capacity building activities carried out by the Headquarters of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), he suggested that the content of the training courses also must be made available online so that more experts from the signatory governments could use the training courses.

Fifty-third session of the CTBT is being held in Vienna from 25 to 27 November.
