    Iran emphasizes on lifting sanctions against Syrian nation

In a meeting with Astana peace process guarantor states held in Geneva, the Senior Assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, Ali Asghar Khaji called for the lifting of unilateral sanctions against the Syrian people and providing humanitarian aid, especially in the fight against the coronavirus.

Iran PressEurope: Explaining Iran's stance on Syria, Khaji stressed the need to respect Syria's national sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, and the need to counter terrorism in the region during this meeting.

He also underlined the need to resolve the Syrian crisis through the Syrian-Syrian dialogue, the continuation of the Constitutional Committee activities, ‌and announced Iran's readiness to support this measure.

Emphasizing the need to implement the existing agreements in Idlib, he stated: "It is necessary that the committee on the exchange of abducted and missing persons resumes to work as a humane and trust-building issue."

Representatives of the three Astana peace process guarantor states (Iran, Russia, and Turkey) and UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen met in Geneva on Wednesday to discuss developments in Syria, especially on the third meeting of the Constitutional Committee, Idlib, and the committee on the exchange of abducted and missing persons.   104/207
