Iran's national fencing team won a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games, with Sabre as a fencing weapon, suffering a defeat in the Final at the hands of the South Korean team, the current world champions.

According to an Iran Press report, the Iranian men's fencing team (Sabre weapon ) won a silver medal at the Asian Games, suffering a defeat against South Korea.  The two teams were very close and it was a tight race up until point 30. But from then on, South Korea pulled away and won the game 45  to 32 , crushing Iran in the latter stages of the game.

In fact, the game was a repeat of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, where again Iran came second, beaten by the South Koreans who won the gold medal.

Iran and South Korea are the two most powerful nations in the sport of fencing, certainly in Asia, if not at  world level.

In the individual competition, Iran's Ali Pakdaman won a bronze medal in Sabre fencing.

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta Palembang 2018, is a pan-Asian multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 18 August to 2 September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
