Iran FM to depart for Baghdad on Saturday night
Iranian Foreign Minister will head to Baghdad, the Iraqi capital on Saturday night.
Iran Press/Iran news: Mohammad Javad Zarif will travel to Iraq in preparation for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s upcoming official visit to Baghdad on Monday.
Hassan Rouhani will travel to Baghdad at the official invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister and President, Iran Press reported.
Speaking with Iraq's new ambassador to Tehran on Saturday while receiving his letter of credence, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated that there are ample opportunities and scope for further development of relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
Currently, the political and economic relations between Iran and Iraq are at an excellent level, and Iraq imports natural gas for its power plants from Iran.
Iran is Iraq's top trading partner, with the volume of Tehran-Baghdad trade reaching about $12 billion, according to Iraqi officials.
The two countries are currently working on the supply of Iranian natural gas to the Sadr neighborhood of Baghdad, and al-Mansuriya power plants through a 270-kilometer pipeline and to Basra near the Iranian border via a separate pipeline.105/201/211
