US withdrawal from Syria is due to its inability to stand up to the Resistance Movement: Iranian MP

The chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has said America's withdrawal of its forces from Syria is due to its inability to stand up to the 'Resistance Movement'.

Iran PressIran news:  Senior Iranian MP, Mojtaba Zolnour, said the US is seemingly withdrawing from Syria, but in fact, it is pursuing its own strategy in the Middle East.

Speaking in a ceremony to commemorate martyrs in Tehran, Zolnour said the US was supposed to settle Syrian issues in three months, but it took eight years.

He went on strongly criticise Washington for its unstinting and unconditional support of Saudi Arabia which has committed war crimes in Yemen, bombarding civilian targets in the country and killing thousands of Yemeni children, women, and men in cold-blood.

"It is important that the US has admitted defeat and changed tactic by withdrawal from Syria," he noted.

The senior Iranian MP reiterated the US defeat was due to its inability to stand up to the 'Resistance Movement' in the Middle East.

On 7 October, US President Donald Trump ordered American military forces to withdraw from Syria. The decision led to harsh criticisms of Donald Trump by both Republicans and Democrats at home. The Syrian Kurds described it as a total betrayal by their erstwhile American allies.

Donald Trump wrote in his Twitter account: "It is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars, many of them tribal, and bring our soldiers home. We will fight where it is to our benefit, and only fight to win. Turkey, Europe, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Russia, and the Kurds will now have to figure the situation out."

"And what they want to do with the captured ISIS fighters in their 'neighbourhood.' They all hate ISIS, have been enemies for years. We are 7000 miles away and will crush ISIS again if they come anywhere near us," Trump added.

On 9 October, Turkish military forces and Ankara-backed militants invaded northeast Syria in a declared attempt to push the Kurdish People's Protection Units away from the border region between the two countries.
