Tehran (IP) - Iranian researcher, botanist on the sidelines of 37th Iran Book of the Year stated that the country is rich in a kind of botanical species, Astragalus.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press correspondent on the sidelines of today's 37th Iran Book of the Year, Botanist Ali Asghar Masoumi said, "I am a researcher and botanist. I have been working exclusively on the species of Astragalus in Iran for the past 45 years. With the help of other colleagues and university researchers, we have collected Astragalus from different parts of Iran, and during this time I have been able to develop a classification system for these species."

He further added, "It maybe was not a case 40 years ago, but now we have a very big treasure of these species. Astragalus can prevent soil erosion and save water, and even a number of species can produce tragacanth (Katira) which has medicinal properties."
