Senior health Official:
Nutrition, game changer in COVID-19 prevention
Tehran (IP) - Director General of Nutrition Improvement office of Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education has said that nutrition plays a key role in the novel Coronavirus prevention.
Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking at the news conference held on Monday via video-conferencing, Zahra Abdollahi said that paying attention to the types of foods we eat throughout the day helps the immune system and prevents COVID-19.
"A set of nutrients, including vitamins and minerals, can help the immune system when it comes to eating a variety of foods," Zahra Abdollahi added.
“Therefore, there is no emphasis on one type of food, and a set of foods such as adequate consumption of foods, vegetables, and proteins and legumes as sources of protein if consumed properly can help boost the immune system,” explained Iran’s top nutritionist.
“Supplements should be taken by certain groups, such as pregnant mothers and children under the age of two, and this should continue on a regular basis," Abdollahi said.
The use of drops A and D and iron drops should be continued according to the Ministry of Health and Medical Education guidelines, she said.
One of the plans of the Ministery of Health is to use vitamin D supplements, which should be used every day of a 5000 unit supplement for all age groups“, concluded Iran’s health official.
