  • Al-Kazemi, Shamkhani talk about political, security upheavals

Tehran (IP) - Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani met Iraq's Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi on Tuesday afternoon. Both sides discussed political and security upheavals in the region as well as the process of fighting with terrorism.

Iran Press/Iran news: During the meeting, Shamkhani referred to terrorist, malicious and destabilizing actions of the US government, stressing the need for mutual cooperation between regional countries to accelerate the withdrawal of the US forces, which can lead to the boost of regional peace and stability.

Shamkhani also underlined the strategic policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in defending the sovereignty of the Iraqi government and expanding ties between the two countries.

Iran's top official then talked about Iraq's actions in enhancing borders' security and asserted that the implementation of agreements between Iran and Iraq, especially economic agreement, is in the interest of both sides. 

He went on to say that "the definitive solution for the elimination of regional instability and terrorism is the cooperation and alliance between countries in the region, which must be done without external intervention and presence."

Referring to the assassinations of Major General Ghasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, Shamkhani said that the political-legal pursuit of the case is in the will of Iran and Iraq's nations.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa al-Kazemi appreciated the position of the Iranian government and nation in supporting the national sovereignty and Iraqi people during the difficult period of the fight against ISIS.

He said that Iran's actions have united the two nations, and the strategic relationship between the two countries has strengthened the regional and internal security and welfare.
