    Senior MP rules out claims of the missile attack on Natanz nuclear facility

Tehran (IP) - Hojatoleslam Mojtaba Zolnour, the head of the Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, has rejected claims of missile or drone attacks on the Natanz nuclear facility which ocurred this month.

Iran PressIran news: Head of the Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee on Friday said that "Natanz incident had an internal origin, so the comprehensive investigations are underway and at the moment t we cannot say the details".

“There are traces of an explosion discovered from elements on the inside of the building," Zolnour added.

Earlier, Zolnour had said that different scenarios over the incident were investigated in the Commission of National Security and Foreign Policy along with the security and intelligence entities.  

Zolnour noted that the main cause of the incident has almost been identified, yet more investigations are being carried out so that no mistake will happen.

On Thursday, 2 July, the Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said an incident occurred at a facility outside the country’s Natanz Nuclear Facility early on the day.

He noted that the incident caused no stoppage or slowdown of enrichment because the affected shed was actually under construction and not part of the enrichment process yet.

Kamalvandi said, “The incident took place at about 02:00 local time this morning and caused no loss of life,” adding, “We have many open-space sheds at the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment complex. Our enrichment activities are mostly done underground.”

On July 3, the spokesman for the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Keyvan Khosravi, said according to technical and security investigations, the cause of fire at Natanz Nuclear Enrichment Facility was discovered, but due to some security concerns, it will be announced in an appropriate time.

Natanz is a uranium enrichment center located in the city of the same name in Esfahan Province, some 250 kilometers south of the capital, Tehran.

The Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant, covering 100,000 square meters and built eight meters underground, is one of several Iranian facilities monitored by the UN nuclear watchdog.
