Nouri al-Maliki's office: Qassim al-Araji will become Iraqi PM
Former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's media office announced on Friday that influential political groups and powers have agreed to elect Qassim Mohammed Jalal, known as "Qassim al-Araji" as prime minister.
Iran Press/ Middle East: Former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's Web site posted that Fatah coalitions, Unity of Sunni's Forces, Al-Nasr, Patriotic Union and part of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, other minorities agreed by consensus that Sayyid Qassim Mohammed Jalal becomes prime minister of the transitional period.
The site added that the reason for the election was that he had left the parties and served the Iraqi nation.
Al-Araji was the interior minister in the government of former Iraqi Prime Minister Heydar al-Ebadi. He has also been a member of the National Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi parliament.
