Iraq's new government vowed Saturday to release detainees of mass protests that launched in October and pledged justice and compensation to relatives of over 550 people killed during that unrest.

Iran Press/ Middle East: Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, who with 15 of his proposed 22 ministers won the confidence of Parliament on Wednesday evening, promised "the truth about everything that happened" during the months-long protests.

The announcement was made in a televised address following Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi's first cabinet meeting.

He vowed to "hold to account all those who shed Iraqi blood".

The new government had presented itself as a "transitional" cabinet on Wednesday evening.
