Al-Kazemi set date for snap parliamentary election
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi announced the date for early parliamentary elections on Friday.
Iran Press/Middle East: Al-Kazemi said in a televised speech that early parliamentary elections will be held on June 6, 2021.
He promised to hold the elections in a fair, transparent way and away from factional interference.
The Iraqi Prime Minister said that his government has faced many obstacles in the last two months of its activity, but it is focused on the main goals, adding: "He will do his best to solve the country's crises.
The last Iraqi parliamentary election was held on May 12, 2018, which was widely criticized for electoral violations and fraud.
The election eventually led to widespread street protests on October 1, which resulted in the resignation of the government of Adil Abdul-Mahdi.
Protesters also called for early parliamentary elections, which were approved by Iraqi political and parliamentary factions.
