New Syrian parliament kicks off
Syria (IP) - The third term of the Syrian National Assembly began on Monday during a ceremony attended by 250 representatives elected by the Syrian people.
Iran Press/ Middle East: Last week, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad ordered the formation and inauguration of the country's parliament following the July 19, 2020 elections.
The third parliamentary elections in Syria after the crisis in this country (March 2011) were held on July 19, 2020.
Years after the Syrian crisis, five elections have been held, including two parliamentary elections, two local town and village council elections (2011 and 2018) and one presidential election, and the parliamentary elections are the sixth elections in this country during this period.
Syrian parliamentary elections were held in the country with the slogans "Your vote is your right", "Your vote is your duty" and "Make a difference with your voice and your vote" in 7,277 polling stations with 1656 candidates, including 200 women competing for 250 seats in the Syrian parliament.
Although the parliamentary elections in this period were relatively good in terms of security compared to previous periods, the outbreak of coronavirus was a reason behind the postponing of the elections twice.
The Syrian parliamentary elections are held every four years and the presidential elections every seven years.
