  • Moldova cancelled Israel embassy move

Moldovan Foreign Minister has said his country has decided to shelve a plan to relocate its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to the city of al-Quds.

Iran Press/Europe: Speaking at a press conference at the end of his official visit to US, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, announced that the Moldovan embassy would stay in Tel Aviv and there is no plan to relocate it.

The government of the small Eastern European country had announced earlier this month that it would move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, Iran Press reported.

The announcement followed fallout from a constitutional crisis and power struggle in the country.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on Moldova to U-turn on its decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Israel occupied east al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 1967, which Palestinians claim as the capital of their future state. The United States moved its embassy to al-Quds in May, which Palestinians condemned as violating the longstanding principle that the status of al-Quds is to be decided in final negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. 101/211
